Biography

Tyler Readinger, a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, has quickly gained traction as a dynamic young conductor through his spirited artistry, all-embracing versatility, and collaboratively welcoming approach to music. He has served as cover conductor for the New York Philharmonic, the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, formerly served as assistant conductor of the Reading Philharmonic Orchestra and has been invited to guest conduct groups such as the Reading Pops Orchestra, Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic, and Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. He has assisted and covered numerous conductors such as Thomas Wilkins, Constantine Kitsopoulos, Marzio Conti, Ira Levin, and Angel Gil-Ordoñez amongst others, and has also studied briefly with David Neely, Christian Capocaccia, and Georgios Vranos. He has previously collaborated with world-class artists such as Kurt Nikkanen and Maria Asteriadou, as well as many guest performers and composers from the Juilliard School, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, and Manhattan School of Music. Currently, he is a doctoral student under the tutelage of Arthur Fagen and Thomas Wilkins at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University, and was assistant conductor to the IU Opera and Ballet Theater having worked on productions of Bernstein’s Candide, Puccini’s La rondine, and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.

Tyler was named semifinalist in the 2022 V Nino Rota International Conducting Competition in Matera, Italy. He has also participated in multiple conducting programs, most recently being the International Conducting Workshop and Festival in Lviv, Ukraine with conductor Carl St. Clair and the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, he was a fellow of the Conductors Institute of South Carolina working with conductors Donald Portnoy, Peter Jaffe, and Jorge Mester, along with composers Victoria Bond, Samuel Jones, and John Fitz Rogers, and participated in the Beyond the Baton conducting seminar with conductor Diane Wittry. His enthusiastic versatility on the podium has him working comfortably in a wide variety of styles, including the classical symphonic canon, contemporary and new music, pops music, as well as many others. He also is an avid conductor of film music both in live-to-picture performances and recording sessions, having worked with composers such as Larry Groupé and Neil Brand. In addition to leading numerous premieres of new concert music, he has also conducted live-to-picture premieres and recordings of newly composed scores for multiple early-20th century silent films including Ebenezer Eferebor’s 2023 score for Dragnet Girl (1933), Yi-Chen Chiang’s 2022 score for Coeur Fidèle (1923), Patrick Holcomb’s 2021 score for Grass: A Nation’s Battle for Life (1925), and Ryn Jorgensen’s 2019 score for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920).

Tyler holds a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. A continuous strong advocate of music education to all ages and backgrounds, Tyler has previously served in the College Music Society as the first student member on the organization’s executive board of directors. His immense love for sharing his musical passion had him working as music educator within communities in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Kenya.
